This week, we’re shining a spotlight on Xavier “JDubs” Villalobos, Assistant Program Director for Cali 93.9 FM. From his early days in music and television to his leadership role in radio, JDubs has built a career fueled by creativity, dedication, and his Latino roots.

Q & A

Q: What’s your name, title, and what do you do at Cali 93.9?
A: My name is Xavier “JDubs” Villalobos, and I’m the Assistant Program Director for Cali 93.9 FM.

Q: How did you get into the entertainment industry?
A: In the early 2000s, I was in a local band and was approached by a TV Producer who invited me to host segments on a TV show called The Roof on Mun2 Television (now Universo). From there, I transitioned into radio as a Morning Show producer at a local station.

Q: What part of your heritage or background influences your work the most?
A: All of my work is influenced by my Latino upbringing. It’s a unique tool that I use when creating on-air content or helping to program music.

Q: What does representation mean to you — both personally and professionally?
A: Representation means walking into another company in the same industry—maybe one that’s more Anglo—and seeing Latino faces who’ve earned their positions through hard work, dedication, and the cultural experiences that shaped them.

Q: Can you share a moment where you saw Latino culture celebrated in a meaningful way in your work?
A: I’m blessed to be in a role where I get to see our culture celebrated every day. From seeing so many Latino faces across the company to watching the impact of our collective efforts, it’s something I witness constantly.

Q: What advice would you give to other Latinos trying to break into this field?
A: Treat everyone well. That intern you might overlook or be rude to today could very well be your next manager or boss tomorrow.

Q: Anything else you’d like to add?
A: Have fun as much as possible, and always celebrate our culture by growing our presence.
