To kick off this series, we highlight José Quintero, Radio Host, Podcaster, and Executive Producer for La Vale Show on Cali 93.9. Through his work with his podcast Échale Podcast, José has built a platform that celebrates Latino culture, uplifts authentic voices, and inspires the next generation of creators.

Q&A

1. What’s your name, title, and what do you do?
I’m José Quintero, Radio Host, Podcaster, and Executive Producer at Meruelo Media. Every day I get to create content that entertains, educates, and celebrates the Latino community.

2. How did you get into the entertainment industry?
It started with a mic and a dream. I grew up listening to radio and watching how media shaped culture. I wanted to be part of that movement—and little by little, I carved my space by telling stories that mattered. I knocked on doors not knowing if they would open, and after years of trying I got my foot in the door. My dream was always to be on air when the opportunity wasn’t given to me I gave Myself the opportunity and opened up my own channel…from there people started noticing and the rest is history.

3. What part of your heritage or background influences your work the most?
My Latino roots. They’ve taught me resilience, hustle, and the power of family. Whether I’m on-air, producing a podcast, or behind the scenes at Meruelo Media, that spirit guides everything I create.

4. What does representation mean to you—both personally and professionally?
Representation is visibility and validation. Personally, it’s knowing my culture is seen and respected. Professionally, it’s breaking barriers so our community sees themselves reflected in media and knows: we belong here.

5. Can you share a moment where you saw Latino culture celebrated in a meaningful way in your work?
Every time I mix Spanish and English on-air or feature a Latino artist on my podcast, I feel it. It’s a reminder that we don’t have to water down our culture—we can bring our full selves, and people embrace it.

6. What advice would you give to other Latinos trying to break into this field?
Stay authentic. Don’t try to fit into someone else’s mold. Our stories, our voices, and our perspective are what make this industry stronger.

7. Anything else you’d like to add?
I’m proud to be part of a movement that’s opening doors for the next generation. My goal is simple: to keep creating platforms where Latino voices aren’t just included—they lead.

José Quintero’s journey is one of determination, creativity, and cultural pride. From starting his own channel “Echale Podcast” to becoming a voice on radio, he has proven that opportunities aren’t always given—they can be created.
