Reggaetoneros Call Out Latin Grammys for Lack of Urban Artists Nominated

El martes, the Latin Recording Academy anunciaron los nominados de los 20th annual Latin Grammy Awards, que se llevaran a cabo Nov. 14 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. Bad Bunny, Ozuna, Daddy Yankee, Sech and De La Ghetto son algunos de los artistas urbanos who received nominations.

Now, algunos reggaetoneros are calling out the lack of urban music in the main categories.

“Sin Reggaeton no hay Latin Grammys,” dice una imagen que han publicado artistas como Nicky Jam, Karol G, J Balvin and more. J Balvin says it’s “for the culture and the movement.”

Daddy Yankee, who’s nominated for best urban/fusion performance with “Con Calma” featuring Snow, took to his Instagram to say, “A pesar de ser nominado, no estoy de acuerdo con la forma en que trataron al género y a muchos de mis colegas. Recuerde una cosa muy importante: su plataforma no fue la que creó este movimiento. Esto va más allá de un premio. Esto es cultura, credibilidad, relevancia y RESPETO.”

Also on Instagram, Maluma expressed that his heart is broken after all the hard work he put into his album 11:11. “Es una decepción ni siquiera tener una nominación a los Grammy Latinos. Tanto esfuerzo, el mejor álbum que he hecho en mi vida.”
